IAMCR 2018 - Data Desires in Environmental Movements

I presented my work on everyday data practices in the Western Canada anti-oil pipeline movement as part of a panel title Data, New Media, and the Environment at IAMCR 2018.  The International Association of Media and Communication Research was held in Eugene, Oregon this year. The fabulous panel included very interesting talks ranging from mobile nature apps and new materialism, and 'data scrubbing' at the US Environmental Protection Agency.

My talk focused on the flows of data desire as a productive ontogenetic force, which results in emergent data practices that attempt to grasp, be folded into, and (attempt to) make meaning of the 'chaos' of geological events.
